Fontainebleau Castle

The Château de Fontainebleau boasts eight centuries of continuous sovereign presence. Capetians, Valois, Bourbons, Bonaparte and Orléans - every member of the dynasties that have ruled France has succeeded one another within its walls.

Kings and queens, emperors and empresses all set about embellishing the castle built around the original keep. The whole complex quickly became a vast palace in which a number of key historical events took place.

Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle

The founding work of the French garden, the model for Versailles... Nicolas Fouquet brought together the greatest artists of his time to build the estate of Vaux-le-Vicomte. The architect Louis Le Vau, the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun and the landscape gardener André Le Nôtre created an ensemble at Vaux-le-Vicomte whose perfect harmony would inspire the whole of Europe for centuries to come. Louis XIV surrounded himself with the same team to build the Château de Versailles..

Provins

The town of Provins is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its rich medieval heritage. The capital of the Champagne Fairs, the medieval town of Provins offers a host of events that take visitors back to medieval times.
